The Skarv and Idun Fields lies in the Norwegian Sea and is located approximately 35 km south of the Norne Field and 45 km north of the Heidrun Field. The distance to the onshore base at Sandnessjøen, the nearest city, is 210 km. The water depth at Skarv is approximately 350 metres. The Skarv Field was discovered in 1998 and contains both oil and gas. The Plan for Develpment and Operations (PDO) was approved by the Parliament in December 2007. The field in unitized and the development conists of the Skarv field and the neighboring Idun gas field.
The Skarv/Idun Field contains hydrocarbons in several reservoirs and structures. Approximately 75% of the unit resources are gas, while the balance 25% are condensates and light crude oil. The reservesat sanction were 16.8 mln Sm3 of oil and 43.3 GSm3 of gas. The field started production in January 2013.
The skarv/Idun development is based on simultaneous oil and gas development utilizing a geo-stationary, turret moored FPSO with oil offloading and gas export capabilities, templates and flow lines. The FSPO can produce up to 85 000 BPD of oil, 20 000 BPD water, 670 MMscf/d of gas and 650 MMscf/d of gas export. Pressure support for oil wells is provided by high rate gas injection wells. A total of 16 wells have been drilled. The selected design life for the Skarv/Idun facilities is 25 years.
The oil is tandem offloaded to shuttle tankers and gas is exported through an 80-kilometre long pipeline connected to the Åsgard Transport System and through the Gassled Area B to the Kårstø onshore terminal.
