09.04.2020 Over PLN 2m donated by PGNiG to Central Clinical Hospital of Ministry of Interior and Administration in Warsaw to fight Covid-19

PGNiG has transferred over PLN 2m to the Central Clinical Hospital of the Ministry of the Interior and Administration in Warsaw as part of an aid programme run by the Ministry of State Assets. These funds will be used to purchase medical equipment and apparatus necessary in the fight against the coronavirus epidemic, such as ventilators and chest compression devices. This is one of the initiatives undertaken by the Company to support healthcare establishments through this difficult period.

“All state-owned companies are getting involved in the fight against the coronavirus epidemic, which is a source of reassurance and hope. PGNiG is helping where support is particularly needed by providing funds to buy medical equipment. As any responsible business organisation would do, it does not forget about its own employees or the national energy security. These efforts must bear fruit,” comments Jacek Sasin, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of State Assets.

“PGNiG is one of the largest companies in Poland. We take care to ensure the energy security for our country. Our position is both a privilege and a commitment. This is why we did not hesitate to join the aid programme organised by the Ministry of State Assets,” explains Jerzy Kwieciński, President of the PGNiG Management Board.

The Central Clinical Hospital of the Ministry of the Interior and Administration in Warsaw has received over PLN 2.1m. These funds will be used to purchase equipment needed to save patients’ health and lives. The aid was provided via the PGNiG Ignacy Łukasiewicz Foundation.

At PGNiG, we are aware of the importance of corporate social responsibility, especially at times like the present. We also realise the enormous challenges faced by healthcare institutions working on the pandemic front line. The financial aid we are providing demonstrates our support for Poles, but also our gratitude towards doctors, nurses and medical rescue staff,” says Jerzy Kwieciński. This is how we understand PGNiG’s social role, as reflected by our slogan ‘We are close to you’,” he added.

To date, as part of the aid provided in association with the Ministry of State Assets, PGNiG has transferred over PLN 4m to help hospitals combat the coronavirus. Additional funds of PLN 1.5m were donated to healthcare centres in the towns where the Company’s branches are based (Sanok, Zielona Góra and Ostrów Wielkopolski), as well as to the Provincial Hospital for Infectious Diseases and the Institute of Mother and Child in Warsaw, as this is where PGNiG’s headquarters are located. The Company has also provided selected hospitals with in-kind aid in the form of ventilators worth about PLN 1m. In aggregate, the amount of support for healthcare institutions provided so far is over PLN 6.5m.

PGNiG is also actively supporting other strategic institutions, such as the National Health Fund. Several dozen employees of PGNiG Obrót Detaliczny are supporting their hotline, giving advice to thousands of Poles. Together with the Polish Association of the Deaf and with the support of the Ministry of Development Funds and Regional Policy, PGNiG has also recently launched a video helpline for deaf people who need information on the coronavirus. It operates on a 24/7 basis to ensure non-stop access to support and assistance.

The Company also remembers to take care of its employees. For the duration of the epidemic, internal safety procedures have been put in place to minimise the risk of infection while ensuring continued production and administration processes. “PGNiG allows its employees to work from home and provides them with hygiene products and personal protective equipment. To date, we have spent almost PLN 2m on these measures,” says Jerzy Kwieciński, President of the PGNiG Management Board.
