15.10.2019 PGNiG: a new oil and gas discovery in the Norwegian Sea

Based to preliminary estimation, the recoverable resources of the Shrek discovery is in the range between 19 and 38 MMboe (million barrels of oil equivalent), as confirmed by the Norwegian Oil Directorate (NPD).

“As initially announced, drilling of the Shrek prospect took a month and a half. We confirmed the presence of natural gas and crude oil in the lower and middle Jurassic sandstones. We took cores and samples of reservoir fluids and performed detailed geophysical logging, which allowed us to determine the preliminary size and assess the quality of the reservoir,” commented Piotr Woźniak, President of the PGNiG Management Board. This discovery is a big success for PGNiG Upstream Norway, which is operator for the license,” he added.

Drilling of the main exploration wellbore and appraisal sidetrack, which appraised the structure towards the west, took as planned 45 days. Drilling was carried out offshore, where the water depth is about 350 meters. The top of reservoir has been encountered as assumed, at depth of approx. 2000 meters below the sea surface. The Shrek discovery is located about 5 km south from the Skarv FPSO.

“It is very probable that the new field will be tied back to Skarv FPSO, owned partly by PGNiG, which can have a positive impact on the profitability of the Skarv project. Thanks to the new discovery, we will increase our own production on the Norwegian Continental Shelf, where we want to produce 2.5 bcm of natural gas annually after 2022,” said the President of the PGNiG Management Board.

PGNiG Upstream Norway holds 40 percent shares in the PL838 license. It was awarded as part of the APA2015 round. It is located in the Norwegian Sea and is directly adjacent to the Skarv and Ærfugl licenses, where PGNiG carries out hydrocarbon production

PGNiG Upstream Norway currently holds shares in 24 exploration and production licenses on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.
