Polskie Górnictwo Naftowe i Gazownictwo SA has signed contracts with EDF Gaz Toruń Sp. z o.o. and EDF Toruń S.A. for the supply of gas to EDF’s new CHP plant in Toruń.

The parties have signed two contracts, one of which provides for the supply of gas for the plant’s technical start-up and commissioning, and the other for the supply of gas after the plant comes on stream commercially, for the period from March 1st 2017 to October 1st 2019. The aggregate volume of contracted gas is approximately 355 mcm.

“The contract with EDF for the supply of gas to the Toruń-based CHP plant is another proof that we have a lot to offer”, said Maciej Woźniak, Vice-President of the Management Board of PGNiG responsible for Trade. “By selecting PGNiG, customers receive not only competitively priced fuel, but also guaranteed supplies from a reliable partner, which is essential for projects of this type”, he added.

“The new gas-fired CHP plant at EDF Toruń will replace the existing coal-fired boilers. The new plant will be fuelled by gas supplied by Polish company, PGNiG, which guarantees secure and reliable heat supplies for the people of Toruń”, said Robert Kowalski, President of the Management Board of EDF Toruń. “The gas-fired plant will have highly efficient and low-emission facilities to co-generate heat and power. Power production from the plant will enhance the energy security of the town and the region. The replacement of the coal-fired boilers with the new gas-fired CHP plant will reduce emissions of sulphur oxides, nitrogen oxides and particulate matter by approximately 90%, greatly contributing to improvement of air quality in Toruń”, emphasised Mr Kowalski.
