18.06.2015 PGNiG begins drilling another exploratory shale gas well in Pomerania

Polskie Górnictwo Naftowe i Gazownictwo SA has commenced shale gas exploration work on the Wysin-2H well in the Stara Kiszewa licence area, located in the Liniewo rural district in Pomerania.

Wysin-2H is the 18th exploratory shale gas well drilled by the PGNiG Group, and its third horizontal one. By drilling that well, the Company commenced the horizontal drilling stage of its shale drilling campaign in the region of Pomerania.

The Wysin well is being drilled by UOS (United Oilfield Services) and its target depth is 3,955 metres (its total length, including the directional and horizontal sections, will reach 5,450 metres). The drilling work will take approximately 65 days.

This is the second borehole to be drilled in the Liniewo district. The previous one, Wysin-1, was drilled between March and May 2013 down to a depth of 4,040 metres.

The main exploratory work was preceded by information meetings with local authorities and residents of the Liniewo district, where the Wysin-2H well is located.

The Company has so far drilled 17 wells in search for shale gas. In 2015, it plans to drill and fracture three horizontal wells: Wysin-2H, Wysin-3H and Lubocino 4H. PGNiG SA’s capital expenditure on upstream work is estimated to reach PLN 1.4bn this year.

Depending on the results of the drilling work, decisions will be made whether to drill more wells in Pomerania.
