21.01.2015 PGNiG granted another operatorship licence in Norway

PGNiG Upstream International (“PGNiG UI”), a subsidiary of Polskie Górnictwo Naftowe i Gazownictwo SA, has been awarded, as the licence operator, a 40% interest in the PL 799 licence in the Norwegian See. PGNiG UI’s new licence partners are Statoil Petroleum AS, VNG Norge AS and Explora Petroleum AS, each holding a 20% interest.

Becoming the operator of the PL 799 licence marks another important step in the development of PGNiG UI. The licence partners are oil companies with extensive experience in execution of exploration and production projects both in Norway and in other parts of the world. For the first time PGNiG UI has partnered with Statoil, the largest Norwegian company, which is particularly important for the position and further growth of the Polish oil producer in Norway.

The PL 799 licence is located close to the Skarv field, brought onstream in late 2012, and the Snadd field, for which a field development plan is being matured. PGNiG UI holds interest in both fields.

The licence partners have two years to perform relevant geological and geophysical analyses to make a precise estimate of the licence potential. In that period a drill-or-drop decision will be made.

At present, PGNiG UI holds interests in 17 licences on the Norwegian Continental Shelf on the North Sea, the Norwegian Sea and the Barents Sea, including eight exploration licences, as well as licences on four producing fields (Skarv, Vilje, Vale and Morvin) and two fields which are currently being developed (Snadd and Gina Krog).

As part of the APA 2014 licensing round, on January 20th 2015 the Norwegian government awarded interests in 54 exploration and production licences on the Norwegian Continental Shelf to 43 oil companies. Thirty-four of the licences are located in the North Sea, 16 in the Norwegian Sea, and 4 in the Barents Sea
